Child Passenger Safety Course
LECOM
Post-Baccalaureate students participated in the latest Car Seat
Passenger Safety Course held at LECOM along with several community
members. The Pennsylvania Traffic Injury Prevention Project
directed its 3rd course hosted at LECOM in May with over 32 hours
in course work including both written and hands-on exams. The
event culminated with a Car Set Check open to the public at
EmergyCare in May. LECOM students and community members had their
first chance to work with the public in making sure that the car
seats are installed correctly and giving them safety tips on
certain projectiles that may be in a car. One student commented
on how even sippy cups and a road atlas could be dangerous in the
vehicle and the best place for those items are in the owner's
trunk. The LECOM students will continue with assisting with other
Car Seat Checks in the community during the next year. The event
was sponsored by LECOM, Erie Area Safe Kids Coalition, PA Traffic
Injury Prevention Project, PA State Police, the Erie Department of
Health and N.W. Regional Highway Safety Network.
Special
thanks to all of the course instructors: Andrea, Lark, Mike, Mary,
Kathy and Jesse. Congratulations to LECOM students and community
members who completed the Child Passenger Safety Course.
