LECOM Presents Poison Prevention Program to the
Community
Children and parents were
encouraged to come and learn about Poison Prevention from Lake Erie
College of Osteopathic Medicine (LECOM) College of Medicine and
School of Pharmacy students on Saturday, March 27, 9-11 am,
Millcreek Community Hospital (Education Center). This event was
part of National Poison Prevention month in March.
Did you know that
Sudafed and Red Hots are very similar looking? And if these
medicines get in the hands of babies and children it could be very
dangerous. Both the medical and pharmacy students joined together
this year to explain the “Pill Look Alike” display and the best ways
to stay safe when it comes to medicines and potential poisons in
your homes.
This year’s program
included the following sponsors: Lake Erie College of Osteopathic
Medicine (LECOM), Erie Safe Kids Coalition, Meadowbrook Dairy, Safe
Kids Foundation, Pittsburgh Children’s Hospital and Great Lakes
Kidpower. Classy 100 radio personality Brenda Savelli and Country
98 broadcaster Matt Alterio hosted a live radio remote full of fun,
games and prizes.
The Poison Prevention
Program continues to be requested throughout the community for
health fairs. The School of Pharmacy plans to distribute the “Pill
Look Alike” display to the various local pharmacies as a learning
tool.
