Mercyhurst Prep Agreement
Lake Erie College of
Osteopathic Medicine (LECOM) and Mercyhurst Preparatory School (MPS)
have established an educational partnership, the first between LECOM
and a high school. The two schools are working together to develop
educational programs that encourage MPS graduates to pursue programs
in the health professions.
LECOM has pledged a
significant contribution to MPS as student scholarship money for the
encouragement of students who study science and who will continue
their studies to become physicians or pharmacists. LECOM will partner
with MPS to develop educational programs that will challenge the
students’ science skills and prepare them for health professions.
With MPS, LECOM hopes
to expand a pharmacy technician program that introduces high school
students to community pharmacy and opens the door to jobs with local
drugstores. LECOM intends to reintroduce a summer high school medical
education program with the assistance of MPS. The summer program will
show students how physicians diagnose patient cases and allow teams of
students to study their own patient cases.
One of the goals of
Mercyhurst Prep’s $3 million Call to Lead Capital Campaign is to raise
$50,000 + for renovation of science laboratories This transformation
will make better use of the space and put the school on the cutting
edge of curriculum innovations.
This cooperative
affiliation encourages Mercyhurst Prep students to investigate and
experience classes in the sciences as well as pursue careers in health
professions.
